13 South Gray Street

Built later than 1826, from 1940-86 was occupied by Mary Newberry Sturroch, daughter of Fra Newberry and widow of Alex Sturroch. Photographed in her garden between 1975 and 1980 by the late Dr R S ("Dick") Swain of 8 South Gray Street. Fra Newbery was the Director of the Glasgow School of Art who commissioned Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Mary was one of the last people alive to have known CRM personally.
